Prayer mat top 10: ten choices to consider

There is no single 'best' prayer mat for everyone. Someone who travels often is looking for something different from someone who prays at home on a hard floor. That is why this top 10 is not a ranking with temporary prices, but ten practical choices that determine which prayer mat suits you.

1. The everyday prayer mat

For daily use, comfort, care and durability are important. Choose a mat that is easy to lay down and doesn't require too much maintenance.

2. The thin prayer mat

A thin mat is light and easy to fold. That is convenient if you move it regularly or have little storage space.

3. The thicker prayer mat

On a hard floor, some extra thickness can be comfortable. Do pay attention to stability: extremely soft padding doesn't feel pleasant for everyone when standing and in sujud.

4. The travel mat

For school, work or holidays, weight and foldability matter most. A compact mat that fits in a bag is then often more practical than a luxury version.

5. A calm design

Some people prefer few details and calm colours, so that their surroundings distract as little as possible during prayer.

6. A colourful design

If you like colour, you can choose a modern pattern, such as the prayer mat with coloured panels.

7. A classic or floral design

A more traditional look can be lovely as a permanent mat at home or as a gift. The Tulip prayer mat is an example of a more decorative design.

8. A prayer mat for children

For children, pay attention to a suitable size, easy cleaning and a design that appeals to them. The mat should be inviting without becoming a toy during prayer.

9. A prayer mat as a gift

For a gift, choose quality and an accessible style rather than just eye-catching decoration. Also check the size so that it is actually practical to use.

10. A mat that is easy to look after

Check the washing instructions before buying. A beautiful mat that is hard to keep clean can quickly turn out to be less practical in daily use.

Do you have to use a prayer mat?

A specific prayer mat is not a condition for praying; a suitable clean place can be sufficient. A prayer mat is mainly practical for creating a fixed, clean place of prayer.
