Discover the importance of humility in Islam and the dangers of arrogance in this insightful book.
Allāh, the Most High, says: “And do not walk upon the earth arrogantly. Indeed, you will never tear the earth [apart], and you will never reach the mountains in height.” (Qurʾān 17:37).
The Messenger of Allāh (peace and blessings be upon him) stated: “No one who has a weight of mustard seed of arrogance in his heart will enter Paradise.”
One of the most praiseworthy characteristics emphasized in Islām is humility—a virtue that reflects true faith and protects against the spiritual disease of arrogance. Humility is not merely a moral choice; it signifies the believer’s awareness of their position before Allāh, Mighty and Majestic, and recognition of Allāh’s Supreme Majesty. Conversely, arrogance is repeatedly condemned in the Qurʾān and Sunnah, leading to injustice, mistreatment of others, and a false sense of superiority.
This work explores the significance of humility and its manifestation in various aspects of a Muslim’s life: in dealings with others, speech, clothing, and even the way one walks upon the earth. It emphasizes the importance of shunning fame and recognition, as the true believer strives to be known to Allāh, not to people.
This text aims to revive the practice of humility among Muslims, reminding us of the dangers of arrogance and the immense reward awaiting those who embody true humility.
